Fund and ETF factsheet FAQs
Fund, ETF and index factsheets, and how autoFactsheet works.
About factsheets
What is a fund factsheet?
A fund factsheet is a short summary of a fund, usually one or two pages, published monthly or quarterly. It shows what the fund aims to do, its key facts, recent performance, what it holds and its main risks. Investors, advisers, platforms and distributors use it to understand and compare funds quickly.
What should a UCITS or ETF factsheet include?
Most factsheets include the investment objective; key facts such as ISIN, share class, launch date, base currency, fund size and ongoing charges; performance against the benchmark or index; top holdings and sector or country allocations; the risk indicator; and listing details for ETFs. Because a factsheet is a marketing communication, in the EU it must be clearly labelled as one, be consistent with the prospectus and Key Information Document (KID), present risks as prominently as potential benefits, and follow the rules on showing past performance.
How often are factsheets updated?
Most funds publish factsheets monthly, a few business days after month end, once the net asset values and holdings are final. Some funds, particularly alternatives and private markets, publish quarterly.
What is the difference between a factsheet and a KID?
A Key Information Document (KID) is a legally required pre-sale document with a fixed format, wording and length set by regulation. A factsheet is a marketing document with more freedom of layout, updated more often and focused on recent performance and holdings. The two must be consistent: the risk indicator, costs and objective on the factsheet should match the KID. In the UK, the FCA's Consumer Composite Investments regime is replacing PRIIPs KIDs and UCITS KIIDs with a new product summary. Read our guide: Factsheet vs KID.
What is the difference between a KIID and a KID?
A UCITS KIID is a two-page key document for UCITS funds, with a 1 to 7 risk and reward indicator and up to 10 years of past performance. A PRIIPs KID covers packaged products more widely: it runs to up to three pages, uses a 1 to 7 summary risk indicator, and shows performance scenarios and cost tables instead of past performance. In the EU, UCITS funds have used the PRIIPs KID since 1 January 2023. In the UK, both are being replaced by the FCA's CCI product summary, which applies in full from 8 June 2027. Read more in our guide Factsheet vs KID.
What is a CCI product summary?
A CCI product summary is the new key document for consumer composite investments, including funds, sold to UK retail investors under the FCA's Consumer Composite Investments regime, set out in the DISC sourcebook. It replaces the UCITS KIID and PRIIPs KID, with a 1–10 risk and return score, costs in percentages and pounds, and a graph of what £10,000 (or a round amount of similar size, divisible by 1,000, in the fund's currency) would have grown to. The FCA prescribes the content and calculations but not the overall layout, apart from the risk scale and the performance graph format. Firms may switch from 6 April 2026 and must do so by 8 June 2027. See our example CCI product summary.
Is a fund fact sheet the same as a factsheet?
Yes. "Factsheet", "fact sheet" and "fund fact sheet" all mean the same document. Some firms also call it a fund profile, monthly fund report or key facts sheet. Whatever the name, it is a marketing communication and follows the same rules.
What is an index factsheet?
An index factsheet summarises a benchmark or index: its objective and methodology, index level and performance, number of constituents, top constituents, sector and country weights, and characteristics such as dividend yield. Index providers publish them monthly for licensees, ETF issuers and investors. autoFactsheet produces index factsheets as well as fund factsheets. See our sample index factsheet.
Working with autoFactsheet
What types of funds and products do you produce factsheets for?
UCITS funds, ETFs, AIFs, OEICs, index and benchmark factsheets, and digital-asset products such as physically backed crypto ETPs and tokenised fund share classes.
Can fund factsheets be automated?
Yes. Once your templates are set up, each fund's data flows in every month, the charts, tables and text are generated automatically, and every factsheet goes through data checks before your team approves it. This replaces manual work in InDesign, Excel or PowerPoint, and means every share class can be ready on day one.
Who provides automated factsheet production for UK and European funds?
autoFactsheet provides automated factsheet production for UK and European funds, including UK funds and Irish and Luxembourg UCITS funds and ETFs, and for funds sold worldwide. Each month your fund data is turned into factsheets in your own branding, checked for missing or inconsistent data and against your KID or EMT, and sent for your approval. We also produce the new UK CCI product summaries.
Do you have factsheet templates for UCITS and AIF funds?
Yes. The same template approach covers UCITS funds, ETFs and AIFs, as well as index and crypto ETP factsheets. Each template is set up once in your branding, with your logo, colours and fonts, and carries the statements that apply to your fund and its investors, such as the marketing communication label and risk warnings. After that, every month's factsheet is built from your data automatically.
Can we outsource our factsheet production?
Yes. Many management companies and ETF issuers outsource factsheet production rather than run it in-house. With autoFactsheet you send the data, we produce the factsheets in your branding, and your team reviews and approves each one. You keep control and regulatory responsibility; we handle the production.
Do we need factsheet software?
Not necessarily. The main options are producing factsheets in-house with design tools such as InDesign or Excel, licensing factsheet software and running it yourselves, or using a managed service. autoFactsheet is a managed service: you get automated factsheets without buying, hosting or maintaining software.
What data do you need from us?
Typically: month-end prices or NAVs, fund and benchmark returns, holdings or constituent weights, static data such as ISINs, share classes, fees and launch dates, any manager commentary, and your brand guidelines. We can calculate performance and risk statistics from the underlying data if you prefer.
How do we send you the data?
Whichever way suits you: directly from your administrator or index provider, by secure file transfer (SFTP), by API, or as a simple file upload. We fit around the data you already have.
How are factsheets checked before they are published?
Each run goes through automated data checks, for example stale prices, weights that do not add up, missing disclosures and inconsistencies with the KID. Your team then reviews and approves each factsheet with a four-eyes sign-off. Every version and approval is logged and archived.
Who is responsible for the content of the factsheets?
You remain responsible for the accuracy of the data you provide and for approving each factsheet before it is published. Regulatory responsibility for marketing communications stays with the management company or issuer. autoFactsheet produces the documents to your templates and runs the checks.
How long does it take to get started?
Usually a few weeks from receiving your brand guidelines and a first month of data, depending on the number of templates, languages and data feeds. A free sample factsheet for one fund comes first, so you can see the result before you commit.
Pricing and terms
How much does it cost?
Pricing is per fund per month and covers all of that fund's share classes. For new issuers and boutiques (up to 5 funds) it is £150 per fund per month, plus a one-off £500 template set-up. Larger ranges, ManCos and white-label platforms are priced to suit. See the pricing section on our homepage. View pricing.
Is there a minimum term?
Factsheets have a 3-month minimum, then run month to month with one month's notice. CCI product summaries run on an annual basis, because most of the work is done at the start. Either way, we begin with a free sample built on one of your own funds, so you can judge the quality before signing up.
Do you provide investment advice?
No. autoFactsheet provides document production services only. We do not give investment, legal, tax or regulatory advice, and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority or any other financial regulator.
Is our data kept confidential?
Yes. Data you send us is used only to produce your factsheets and is treated as confidential. Data sent for a free sample is deleted when the pilot ends unless you become a client. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. Read the privacy policy.
